Toyota Tacoma Maintenance Timeline in Stafford, VA
Every day at Sheehy Toyota Stafford’s Service Department, Tacoma owners pull in with trucks that have conquered job sites, mountain trails, and cross-country adventures. These machines earn their reputation for toughness, but even the most rugged truck needs a strategic maintenance plan. Think of routine service not as an expense, but as an investment in extending your Tacoma's already impressive lifespan. Here's the roadmap our technicians follow to keep these legendary pickups performing at their peak.
The First Year: 5,000 to 10,000 Miles
Your first service visit typically happens around 5,000 miles or six months, whichever comes first. This initial appointment includes an oil and filter change, tire rotation, and a multi-point inspection where our technicians check fluid levels, brakes, lights, and filters. We also inspect your cabin air filter, which can accumulate dust quickly depending on your driving conditions around Stafford and beyond. For Tacoma models with traditional oil, we recommend service every 5,000 miles. If you're using full synthetic oil, you can extend this to 10,000 miles. However, if you frequently tow, drive in dusty conditions, or make lots of short trips, we suggest sticking with the 5,000-mile interval regardless of oil type.
15,000 to 30,000 Miles: Building the Foundation
As you approach 15,000 miles, it's time for another oil change and tire rotation. We'll also inspect your brake pads and rotors more thoroughly, checking for wear patterns that might indicate alignment issues that could affect your Route 17 commute. Around 20,000 miles, we typically recommend replacing your cabin air filter to ensure your HVAC system runs efficiently. The 30,000-mile service is more comprehensive. Beyond the standard oil change and tire rotation, we'll inspect your cooling system, check all belts and hoses for wear, examine your suspension components, and test your battery. If you have a 4WD Tacoma, we'll also service the transfer case and differential fluids. This is when we start seeing components that need closer attention, and catching small issues now prevents expensive repairs later.
60,000 Miles: The Major Milestone
Your 60,000-mile service is one of the most important maintenance intervals. In addition to the regular oil change and tire rotation, we recommend several critical services. Your transmission fluid should be changed, especially if you tow regularly or drive in mountainous terrain. Spark plugs typically need replacement at this interval, along with the engine air filter. We'll also perform a complete brake system inspection and flush your brake fluid, which absorbs moisture over time and can compromise braking performance. Your coolant should be flushed and replaced to prevent corrosion in the cooling system. Many Tacoma owners are surprised by the cost of 60,000-mile service, but these preventive measures protect your investment and prevent breakdowns. Before your next trip to Widewater State Park, fill out the Ask a Tech form on our website to learn more.
90,000 Miles and Beyond
At 90,000 miles, you'll repeat many services from the 60,000-mile interval, including spark plugs if you didn't upgrade to long-life versions. We'll also closely inspect your suspension, steering components, and drive belts. The serpentine belt typically needs replacement between 90,000 and 100,000 miles. By 100,000 miles, your Tacoma is just getting broken in by Toyota standards. Maintain your service schedule, and these trucks regularly exceed 200,000 miles with proper care. We recommend continuing oil changes every 5,000 to 10,000 miles, tire rotations at every other oil change, and staying vigilant about fluid changes and inspections.
The Bottom Line
Consistent maintenance is the secret to Tacoma longevity. While it's tempting to skip services or stretch intervals, we've seen firsthand how regular care prevents expensive repairs. Schedule an appointment with our experts at Sheehy Toyota Stafford in advance, keep your service records, and don't hesitate to bring your truck in if something feels off. Your Tacoma will reward you with decades of dependable service.

Testimonials
“ Smooth and efficient process with the assistance of Navy Federal True Car program. ”
“ After meticulously researching and reviewing the 2026 Toyota RAV4 for several months, I went to Sheehy Toyota of Stafford to see if I could execute a fair deal with minimal hassle. The overall goal was not to score a "deal" and save money, but to get the exact vehicle I wanted at a reasonable price without any unreasonable markup. My salesman Aaron V. was very professional and did an excellent job at listening to my requests on what vehicle and exact trim/specifications I had in mind. I was given a whole Out the Door price when requested and we went through every line item of that OTD and broke down where it all goes (MSRP/Taxes/Shipping/Etc.). The vehicle I had requested was not in stock but I was able to put in a factory order with my exact specifications. I was even able to omit a couple items (floormat/mudguards) with very minimal pushback. During the waiting period of a couple months, I was communicated with regularly and given updates on the overall status of the vehicle. When it came time to purchase, they stuck to the previously agreed upon OTD price and didn't try to go back on it at any point. I saw a lot of honesty and integrity at a place I was not expecting to find any. Aaron and his team were honest, transparent, and never went back on their work at any point during the deal. There were a couple times they tried to get me to bite on a couple add-ons or a higher trim, I can't fault that - it's part of their jobs. However, they respected my declination with no issues. Overall, the team at Sheehy Toyota of Stafford were very polite, courteous, and professional as they were able to assist me in ordering the perfect vehicle for my family without forcing any unnecessary (in my personal opinion) dealer add-ons. I will definitely be doing business here again whenever I'm in the market for a new Toyota. Thanks Aaron! ”
“ Josh was so helpful, professional and kind! He was able to schedule my vehicle without an appointment and get me in a loaner in about 15 minutes. Really incredible! ”

“ We have been Toyota customers for years and Brandon our salesperson, made the experience very easy and accommodating. We will be shopping more with this company in the future. We have three Toyota vehicles and my new ride drives like a dream. This was also an early 50th birthday gift for myself. ”
“ Excellent salesperson and very helpful staff ”
“ I purchased my truck a few months ago, and the salesman, Aaron Valeriano, was incredibly helpful, respectful, and patient throughout the entire process. I visited Sheehy several times before making my decision, and every time I stopped by, Aaron was happy to answer my questions and provide more information about the vehicles that caught my attention. Unlike some salespeople I have dealt with in the past, he was never pushy, impatient, or in a bad mood because I had not yet made up my mind. He always treated me with professionalism and respect. If you are still trying to decide which vehicle is right for you, Aaron is definitely the person to talk to. He is knowledgeable, respectful, and extremely patient. In my opinion, he should be recognized as Salesman (or Employee) of the Month. I would also like to give a special thanks to Jennifer Connevey, the Tag & Title Clerk, and Ashlee Jones (Financial Director) . They were very kind, helpful, and guided me through the entire registration process, making everything smooth and stress-free. Overall, I had a great experience at Sheehy and highly recommend them. They consistently have great deals and outstanding customer service. ”

“ They’re welcoming and nice ”
“ Good work at a reasonable price...had a minor miscommunication in the beginning, so ensure that the service writer gets it clear. Accompdated me even after I was an hour late fir my appointment, so they get an A+ for flexibility and customer service. ”
“ The staff at Sheehy were extremely helpful. They made my purchase very easy, without stress. I felt we worked very well together to allow me to acquire this beautiful vehicle. From beginning to end a very pleasant experience. ”
“ The technician work was appreciated. They sent a video documenting that they actually did work. 1. Check in was slowwwww. They only had one person to check cars in and that included him also driving the cars into the shop. 2. They forgot to tell me my car was ready. I only found out because I thought it was taking too long and went into the service check in and asked about my car and he admitted that they forgot to notify me. ”
“ Friendly staff and comfortable lounge, however, the wait time for a regular oil change and service is consistently extensive even with prior booking of an appointment. ”
“ Was ignored the first 20 minutes , then I was told an emissions test would be quick but I ended up being there 1 hr 30 minutes. ”
“ *Avoid this Dealership* *Update I was told to deal with Toyota Brand instead of Sheehy* what a joke of a dealership this is. I purchased a brand-new 2026 Toyota Sienna LE AWD from Sheehy Toyota of Stafford on May 2, 2026, expecting the reliability and quality that Toyota is known for. Unfortunately, my ownership experience has been the complete opposite. Immediately after driving the vehicle home from the dealership, which is over an hour away, I began experiencing concerns involving the vehicle pulling to the left, steering wheel alignment issues, and significant driver-side mirror vibration at highway speeds. Due to my demanding work schedule, I was unable to immediately return to the dealership, but the concerns were reported shortly thereafter. Since then, I have spent weeks driving between multiple Toyota service centers attempting to get answers and a proper resolution. The vehicle has been inspected multiple times, resulting in unnecessary mileage, lost time, frustration, and inconvenience on a vehicle that was supposed to be brand new. What has disappointed me most is not just the vehicle concerns themselves, but the amount of effort required to have those concerns taken seriously. As a customer, I should not have to spend weeks visiting service departments trying to resolve issues that were present immediately after taking delivery of a new vehicle. I purchased a new vehicle specifically to avoid the headaches and inconvenience associated with ongoing repairs and repeated service visits. Instead, my brand-new Sienna has resulted in one of the most frustrating vehicle ownership experiences I have ever had. I have been a loyal Toyota customer for many years, which makes this experience especially disappointing. At this point, I hope Sheehy Toyota of Stafford takes ownership of the situation, works to regain my trust, and makes things right for a customer who placed confidence in their dealership when purchasing a brand new vehicle. ”
“ My tire is different now ”
“ No stars. Place doesn’t know what to do with my car. Keeps changing parts and still have the same issues as when I came in with. 1,000 dollars later and now I am being told that now it’s my master cylinder and booster cylinder and that will cost 2,000 dollars and still can not guarantee that that will repair it. Meanwhile, they did state inspection, which they knew would not pass. Why do the inspection until the car has no dashboard lights on. I would not recommend anybody to this place. ”
“ Why does this location mandate scheduled vehicle maintenance times, and then take 3-4 + hours ? Never been to a dealership that took more than an hour for regular mileage maintenance. Ridiculous ”
“ Do not come here I had an appointment for oil change at 1 o’clock. They keep me await for two hours when I text advisor. He’s telling me that there is still two cars in front of me. They brought my car back without oil change.do not come here if you don’t have all day to wait ”
“ Definitely a poor experience every time I go to the service department. My appt was at 1:15pm, it’s currently 3:30. I watched a tech pull my car into the bay 20 minutes ago (3:06) to be exact. The guy helping me was really nice, but the older hispanic gentleman that sits behind him totally ignores most people and has an attitude if you ask him for assistance. This has been a reoccurring theme for service at this location. I’m only here for an oil change and tire rotation… lol. This type of customer service is truly unacceptable. ”
“ From Brandon to John then Ray, the place to buy a Toyota I don’t even know if Brandon made it home that night lol ”
